PaddleALL Opportunities

Pa_eng

There are many opportunities for our athletes with physical and/or cognitive disabilities in the coming months/years.  Coach Emma and athlete Tammy  recently returned home from a National Team training camp in Florida.  Having the chance to train with others and learn from them and other coaches was very inspiring.  This summer our PaddleALL athletes have the opportunity to race as full medal events at both the National Championships in Regina in August and the World Championships in Poznan.  Next year will be the BC Disability Games in Penticton and  very soon our outrigger partners will be hosting the World Outrigger Sprints.  Keep abreast of all the opportunities available by signing up for our PaddleALL newsletter at http://www.canoekayakbc.ca/initiatives/paddleall

PaddleALL programs are offered by many of our member clubs and volunteers are always needed and welcomed.  Call the office at 604-465-5268 for opportunities in your community.

Time to start thinking about how you will participate……

June 13 marks World Canoe Day, and we hope you will join CanoeKayak BC in celebrating!
Last year, the Nanaimo Canoe Club organized a community celebration that included music, food, balance competitions, and prizes.  This year, we encourage all canoe clubs across B.C to join in the festivities by organizing an event at your club on June 13th, 2010. A World Canoe Day event at your club will raise awareness of both the sport of canoeing and your club profile in the community.

Suggestions for your World Canoe Day celebration:

ü  Learn to paddle Drop in programs

ü  Paddling contests for beginners

ü  Entertainment

ü  Silent auction

ü  Refreshments

Ways to advertise your event:

ü  Submit a brief description to our local community calendar

ü  Send a press release to local newspapers explaining the event

ü  Distribute posters at local schools, community centers, and businesses in your community

ü  Advertise on your club website

ü  Approach your local TV station to run a segment in their community events program

Let us know what your club is planning and we will help you promote it.

Invite a Friend…..Electronically!

Mc5

Our seasonal activities are starting to pick up and we are trying to keep everyone up to date with event information, photos and results.  Lots of our active and past members are not subscribers to our newsletters or friends on our FaceBook or Twitter pages so they are missing out!  Over the next few days will each of you take the time to review our FaceBook or Twitter ‘friends’ list and invite friends of yours that may be interested in what we do to join our pages.  It is great to see the exciting things that are happening in the BC paddling world.  Certainly those back east must be envious of the beautiful views that we so often take for granted.  Keep the photos coming; a picture’s worth a thousand words and are a very popular part of our pages!
