World Champion C-1 paddler Nicole Haywood has recently been matched with the Port Metro Vancouver in the Growing Champions program.
Port Metro Vancouver takes a proactive role in its communities through a dynamic community relations program and generous community giving initiatives. They also work to develop community engagement opportunities that are defined by strong relationships, with a view of building sustainable futures together.
Growing ChampionsTM is a financial assistance program connecting high-performance British Columbia-based athletes with businesses and individuals throughout the province.
Athletes directly benefit from funds to offset their training and competition costs. And contributors gain recognition and opportunities depending on the contribution path they choose. Through Growing Champions, businesses and individuals can support the teamwork, determination and leadership that sport inspires in its participants.
Thank you to Port Metro Vancouver and to Growing Champions for relieving some of the financial pressures associated with Nicole’s chosen path and for recognizing one of the many outstanding role models that the canoe/kayak athletes in our province have.
With the recent happy news that Growing Champions has matched her with sponsor Port Metro Vancouver , Nicole says the funding support will help offset the cost of spring training camp and the costs related to training, traveling and competing across Canada from May-September of each year. "This funding will allow me to continue with university full-time while also training full-time," says Nicole.
