Master Training Camp 1 a Great Success

Mc6

First off all thanks to those who made it out to BCKC’s first Master Training Camp of 2010. Despite a little bit of wind on Saturday it was a huge success and 26 people come out for it. We had on and off water session lead by qualified coaches such as Steve (BCKC head coach), Lynn (NCCP level 4 Canoe & Kayak coach), Sara (former Canadian National Team member) and Jodi (Certified Personal Trainer: http://jodiboatesathletics.com/). Everyone got a chance to try out K1’s and K2’s and K4’s as well as war canoe. See here for pictures: http://picasaweb.google.com/krade1709/MastersTrainingCamp1April1011.

Special thanks go to the people who really made the camp possible such as Dave Nosella for being a tireless safety boat driver both days as well as trailering all the boats to and from the club; Fort Langley Canoe Club and False Creek Canoe Racing Club for lending us their boats; and all the camp participants for taking good care of the equipment over the two days.

Stay involved or if you missed the first camp become involved. Here is how:

1) BCKC offers a Paddling Technique Development Program for Adults. Starting in May we’ll be on the Lake every Monday at 7PM. Cost for non-members is $280 (year long program) and cost for BCKC members is $140: http://www.burnabylake.com/program_paddlingtechnique.htm. Bring your own equipment or use BCKC club boats.

2) BCKC also offers War Canoe session free of charge. Starting in May we meet every Wednesday at 7PM: http://www.burnabylake.com/program_warcanoe.htm

3) BCKC will be offering team boat sessions open to everyone once a month or so on weekends (you must be insured through CKBC – $9 for anyone who wasn’t at the camp). No coaches but lots of fun. Boats get filled on a first come first serve policy. The first session will be on May 9th at 1PM. Mark it in your calendar!!!

4) Master Training Camp #2 will focus more on racing and speed development. Tentative date is still July 31 – Aug 2.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Hope to see you all out on the water, Katja (krade@shaw.ca)
