The Reel Paddling Film Festival is coming to Nanaimo

SUNDAY APRIL 3

7 to 9 p.m. The Reel Paddling Film Festival is an international film tour presenting the world’s best whitewater, sea kayaking, canoeing and kayak fishing action and lifestyle films of the year at Vancouver Island University Theatre ,900 Fifth Street in Nanaimo.

With 34 inspiring paddling films short-listed for the World Tour, including the 10 festival category winners, audiences can expect to see stand-up paddle surfing, hairy whitewater action, sea kayakers exploring remote coastlines, headwaters canoe expeditions, international river travel films, motivating environmental documentaries, grueling kayak fishing battles and hilarious short films capturing the lighter side of paddling life. Job Overview:

Responsibilities:

The City of Surrey’s Community & Leisure Services Division provides exciting opportunities and challenges in an active and energetic environment and is currently looking for enthusiastic leaders for tours and weekly courses in the Dragon Boating.

These opportunities require outgoing and responsible individuals, with strong leadership and teaching skills in an outdoor recreational environment. The position includes guiding or instructing courses at a beginner to intermediate level. Typical classes involve the supervision and instruction of 9 to 20 students of all ages and school classes in an instructional and recreational setting. Preparation includes lesson planning, equipment care and classroom set-up and involves both lectures and demonstrations. You will ensure a safe and fun atmosphere for all of the participants.

These positions would be of interest to those applicants who have experience running teambuilding events and activities similar to summer camp. The successful individuals must have strong organizational skills and must work well with limited supervision and in a team environment. This position also requires a thorough knowledge and ability to coach people of various levels, as well as effective oral and written communication skills and extensive experience in this area. As well, the successful candidates must possess a CPR "C" certificate and Standard First Aid and be able to successfully pass a Criminal Record Check.

ABORIGINAL Events at the Dragonboat Worlds in TORONTO

The 2011 ICF Dragonboat Club Crew World Championships scheduled for July 21-24 in Toronto will have Aboriginal events!  The Dragonboat is a great ‘first contact’ boat for our sport.  The inclusion of events for Aboriginal paddlers is a great way the event is aligning with CKC’s strategic goals to pro-actively reach out to Canada’s Aboriginal community.  

We hope to have the following events but this will depend upon the number of entries:

Masters 40+

10 person and 20 DB person boats will be used
