"Victory isn’t defined by wins or losses. It is defined by effort. If you can truthfully say, ‘I did the best I could, I gave everything I had,’ then you’re a winner."
Olivia (Ridge Canoe and Kayak Club – Maple Ridge resident) is no stranger to working hard, and after 6 years in the sport, her hard work is finally starting to pay off. She finds that if she gets tired in between practices curling up in a boat sock for a nap is pretty comfortable!
At the upcoming competition, Olivia wants to place in the top 4 in all of her races, while focusing on racing her plan and trying her best. She sees Westerns as a stepping stone towards her future goals for making the next Canada Summer Games team and maybe even Junior Worlds!
Her inspiration for staying in the sport is her mom – who has supported her throughout her journey. Olivia plans to continue in the sport for as long as it’s fun for her. So far that hasn’t been a problem – she enjoys the challenge and uniqueness of kayaking and is always seen with a smile on her face.
