New Head Coach in Kamloops – WELCOME RYAN!

It is with great pleasure that I am able to announce that KCKC has
acquired a qualified Head Coach for 2012 and beyond! Ryan Stepka will
be joining us on April 16th. As his profile will demonstrate, Ryan will
be coming from Wascana. He also has deep ties to Ontario teams and the
inner circles of coaching at Canada’s highest levels. Interestingly,
Ryan has paddled for Burloak and knows Cory and Aaron Rublee very
well–so our ties with one of Canada’s most prominent teams is
strengthened. Ryan is sprint kayaker but he also has vast experience in both sprint
and marathon canoe. He has won the coveted ‘Black’ (sprint C4) and he
has paddled for Canada at Worlds in marathon. One of the factors that
makes Ryan’s choice to coach with us so exciting is that he hails from
more established teams back east. He knows what it takes to make a
Canadian club thrive and he is dedicated to working with our executive,
directors and external partners in order to put those programs and
systems in place here. Ryan is a career coach who sees Kamloops as an
excellent opportunity to build his career and further demonstrate his
capabilities. We want to grow with Ryan and he wants to grow with us! While Ryan is a keen competitor and very interested in high performance,
he understands that the key to a club’s success is building a base that
includes all levels and ages of athletes. He is also well versed in the
Long Term Athlete Development model so whether you have eight years of
experience or are just starting out, Ryan will be keenly interested in
working with you and putting a system together that will allow you to
achieve your goals.

For more detailed information on Ryan please see his attached profile.

Finally, I would like to thank the hiring committee which consisted of
Avril Rublee, Norm Johnson, Tracy Johnson, Beth Morgan, Mike McLean,
Chris Taylor and myself. Believe it or not, we posted this job back in
July of 2011. We received applications from Romania, the Czech
Republic, Spain, Mexico, Australia, Quebec, Ontario and Saskatchewan.
The process took a considerable amount of effort on everyone’s part and
I’m thrilled with the result. Good work everyone!

Please join me in Welcoming Ryan Stepka to KCKC!

Sincerely, Jeff Morgan

KCKC Treasurer
