Cheers for our Volunteers!

In celebration of National Volunteers Week we will be featuring some of
our key volunteers. If you have a volunteer you would like to see
recognized please let us know who and why! Below is CKBC’s first
nominee:

As past president/flag officer of the CanoeKayak BC Board, Grant
Rawstron has led by example, modeling dedication, patience and respect
for both the diverse perspectives of our board members, and for the
diverse needs of our members. Grant always has time for a phone call,
and has the precious ability to diffuse tense situations simply by
genuinely listening. But it is perhaps outside of the board where Grant’s true strengths lie.
Whether tirelessly promoting a permanent home for paddlesport in Fort
Langley, working with PacificSport to ensure that, as he put it
“athletes in the community were accessing opportunities for supporting
their aspirations and development,” or promoting the goals of our
province at the national level, Grant is known, and respected as
CanoeKayak BC’s ambassador.

And, throughout this, he still manages to get on the water regularly.

Grant has been a leader in breaking down barriers between paddling
disciplines. Working tirelessly to forge relationships with our
whitewater and marathon partners, the slalom course on the Salmon River,
and the Fort Langley Paddlers Classic are examples of his many
successes. Grant has championed the BC Summer Games, leading us back
into the Games after a lengthy hiatus. Grant’s perseverance has enabled
youth from across the province to learn new skills, to make new friends,
and to experience the thrill of a multi-sport competition. As a volunteer, Grant is an outstanding role model!
