Nelson Paddlers Excited about the BC Summer Games

With only a week left until the start of the 2012 BC Summer Games,
Nelson Kayak and Canoe Club’s (NKCC), eight representatives have been
training harder than ever. “We have been practicing 2-3 times a week,
through high glacial water on the lake and rain and more rain in the
early part of the season.” commented Galen Boulanger (age 14). When
asked about their time on the water Galen said, “We have a blast on the
water! It is just pure fun with friends. We are all learning, so someone
is always falling in or not paddling in a straight line.” Keep an eye out for sisters, Annie Hellman (age 12) & Kelly Hellman (age
13), as they battle for sibling bragging rights. Both are second degree
black belts and instructors in Tae Kwon Do, and will be pushing each
other to the limit at this year’s games. Tenne Anderson, Gino Catenacci, Stuart Milde, Owen Thurston, Jacob
Timmermans, and Nicholas Parish round out the team headed to the Lower
Mainland for the Opening Ceremonies on July 19th. They will be led by
local coach Kevin Milde and Emma Visser. While medals are nice,
everyone on the team is excited just to be attending. Results and
updates during the games can be found on the BC Games website at or friend CanoeKayak BC on Facebook.
