OTTAWA, ON – CanoeKayak Canada is pleased to name Mark Granger as its new Paracanoe Discipline Coach. Granger has been a National Team Coach for over 20 years and most recently acted as Team Leader for CKC’s team at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Granger will continue to manage the training centre in Montréal in addition to his new duties.

“I am honoured to work with this project and excited to face the new challenges ahead,” said Granger. “I am not leaving canoeing just changing roles.”

Paracanoe will make its debut on the programme for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Granger will direct his technical expertise and leadership abilities to developing a nation-wide system in Paracanoe as he works to build a team with strong performance-potential for 2016.

Lorraine Lafrenière, Director General of CanoeKayak Canada says this is a significant step for the Canadian Paracanoe program.

“Canada has played an important role in growing Paracanoe internationally. To have a coach as talented as Mark dedicated to growing this discipline holds exciting potential for our country and shows our commitment to making this sport accessible to everyone.” Granger will continue to support the Men’s Kayak program until a new coach is hired. National Team Coaches are meeting this week in Ottawa to continuing planning the path ahead to 2016.
