Canoe Niagara 2013 – Seeking Volunteers

Canoe Niagara 2013, the ICF Junior and Under 23 Canoe Sprint World
Championships, is very pleased to announce that registration is now open
for volunteers!

Volunteers are needed in a variety of positions to support and help
deliver a World Class event that will be the pride of the Canadian
canoeing community, the City of Welland and the Niagara Region. Canoe
Niagara will utilize some 250 volunteers, giving them a chance to rub
elbows with Olympians/Future Olympians, Hall of Famers, and Team Canada
during the seven day Championships.

All interested individuals are invited to apply to be a volunteer with
Canoe Niagara at www.canoeniagara.ca . Look
over the roles and descriptions and see what you might be able to do!
You don’t have to know how to paddle, we have a number of exciting posts
to fill, all important to the success of Canoe Niagara 2013 and the
rewards are pretty great too!

Volunteer applications will be accepted via online registration only
and as of
February 1, 2013, the portal is now open. To be considered for a volunteer position, please complete and submit
your application no later than May 1, 2013.

As part of our event, you will be welcoming approximately 2,000
athletes, officials, coaches, team staff, and dignitaries in addition to
visiting supporters, friends and families from around the World. They
are all coming to the City of Welland.

All applicants will be notified of their application status within three
weeks of applying and no later than June 3, 2013.

Selection will be based on several factors: available positions,
background/experience, and availability. Each successful applicant will
be notified of their position assignment(s) via email. Once assigned to
a specific area, a coordinator will contact the volunteer to discuss
further details of training, scheduling, function and fun.

Volunteer applicants may be part of a security and/or criminal records
screening. Volunteering at a World Championship event is an exciting
opportunity, which also brings a responsibility and commitment as a
volunteer role. We ask for your consideration of this as you register
for these World Championships. Volunteers selected will also be required
to attend either a training session or one of our designated ‘test
events’ prior to the competition, so please be ready to be available. Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years of age or older at the time of
application. Exceptions will be made for medal and flower bearers, and
other roles at the discretion of the Organizing Committee – so get those
names in and be a part of something great!

Part of the legacy of Canoe Niagara, supported by our federal and
provincial governments, is allowing Clubs and Youth Organizations to
make applications together and receive an honourarium for their support.
So get together, get registered, support your club or group by
supporting Canoe Niagara. Together, we’re all stronger. We look forward
to having you be a part of this amazing experience! -30-
