OTTAWA, ON – Paracanoe World Champions Christine Gauthier and Christine
Selinger and World medalist Dave Waters will receive funding through
Sport Canada’s Athlete Assistance Program for the remainder of the 2013
carding cycle. Gauthier of Pointe-Claire, QC is a four-time World
Champion in the K1 200m LTA event. Selinger of Regina, SK has won seven
medals at the World Championships including gold in the Women’s V1 200m
LTA event in 2010 and 2011. Dave Waters of Dartmouth, NS won his first
medal at the 2012 Worlds with a third place finish in the Men’s V1 200
metre in the TA class. With Paracanoe being added to the programme for the 2016 Paralympic
Games, the athletes are now eligible to receive the same support as
National Team Athletes carded athletes. The funding will go a long way
in covering training and personal expenses as the athletes focus on
preparing for their best performances at the 2016 Paralympic Games with
the leadership of Mark Granger, National Team Paracanoe Coach.
