CanoeKayak Canada names Casey Wade as new CEO

OTTAWA – CanoeKayak Canada is pleased to name Casey Wade as its new CEO. Wade has spent over 20 years working in executive positions in sport. He has a wealth of experience in management, strategic planning, and as a former National Team track athlete shares a passion for sport.

“We’re glad to have found such a solid fit,” said Madeleine Hall, Commodore of CanoeKayak Canada. “Casey could not have been more enthusiastic about this job and I know he has the drive and experience to lead us into the future.”

Wade is regarded internationally as a leading expert in anti-doping. He was the Director of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) from 1989 to 2000 and was instrumental in developing Canada’s anti-doping program in the wake of Ben Johnson’s 1988 disqualification. He was one of the founding Directors of the World Anti-Doping Association where he worked for five years. In 2007 he was named Executive Director at the Association of National Anti-Doping Organisation. He has consulted for a global youth sport engagement program and also on the high performance end with Own The Podium.

Most recently Wade was a Professor at Algonquin College’s School of Sport Business. He holds a Masters in Sport Administration and a Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Ottawa. He completed part of his degree at the University of Wisconsin where he ran track. He has represented Canada internationally in the 50, 100 and 200 metre events and was part of the 1979 Pan American Games Team.

“I’m honoured to be taking on this new challenge,” said Wade. “CanoeKayak has long been a hallmark sport in Canada and I look forward to working with the many people who help make this one of our country’s leading sport organizations.”

Wade will officially start his new post on February 3 at CanoeKayak Canada’s national office in Ottawa.

CanoeKayak Canada is the national governing body for competitive paddling in Canada. The organization’s vision is to be a Canadian sport for families, communities and champions. From supporting clubs to developing a competitive National Team, CanoeKayak Canada works to grow a sport which is a rich part of Canada’s heritage.
