CanMas founder Russ Dunn has passed away
CanoeKayak Canada sadly announces the passing of Russ Dunn of Toronto, the founder of CanMas. Dunn was a long-time member and past Commodore of the Balmy Beach Canoe Club. He championed the Active for Life movement within sprint racing of CanoeKayak Canada. His is a living legacy of all the many adults who enjoy paddling into their 70s and 80s. Dunn served on the WOD board for 32 years since 1959. He was a recipient of the R. Edgar Gilbert Award in the Builder Category (1989) for his contributions to Masters canoeing and a Russ Dunn Award is annually presented at the Canadian Masters Championships, Canmas. The trophy at National Championships for Junior Women’s C1 1000 also bear’s Dunn’s name. Dunn was involved with the paddling community for his entire life and attended the Junior and Under 23 World Championships and the Canadian Sprint CanoeKayak Championships last summer.
A celebration of Dunn’s life is being planned in the east end of Toronto with a wake at the Balmy Beach Canoe Club. Details will be updated when available.
