CANOE KAYAK BC E-NEWSLETTER FOR VOLUNTEERS & LEADERS
Congratulations to our leader Sara Hopkins on being our 2014 recipient of the Sport BC President’s Award. Having participated in our sport for many years as a national level athlete Sara has continued on in coaching, officiating and administrative capacities over many years. After having served as our Board Performance lead, she is recently completing her third year as President where she used her legal skills to assist in navigating the arrival of international coaches to our provincial ranks. She has demonstrated her leadership skills by stealthily navigating challenging and charged board issues while at the same time building cohesion within the organization. She has taken a leading role overseeing governance reviews at both the NSO and PSO levels. CKBC offers a heartfelt thanks to Sara for her many years of service and now looks forward to working with her to help establish another club in her new northern location. Sara will be presented with her award on March 12th.
Welcome to CKBC’s newest Board appointees; Stuart Chase as Athlete Representative and Joan Ko as VP Finance. Stuart is a past Canada Games athlete from Kamloops who has returned to paddling after a 10 year hiatus. He paddles for False Creek in the para K-1 category. Joan is new to our organization and currently works as a financial analyst. Great to have some new faces and perspectives.
The nationally recognized CanoeKids program is designed to provide children an opportunity to paddle and socialize with their friends in a fun team environment.
