Sprint club coaching news

Sprint-Coaching-News.png

With the new year comes some coaching changes at CKBC sprint clubs. Both Burnaby Canoe & Kayak Club and the Fort Canoe & Kayak Club are getting ready to welcome some new faces.

Burnaby Canoe & Kayak Club

Current Burnaby Canoe & Kayak Club head coach, Wes Hammer, is finishing his teaching degree and will be heading into the classroom in the fall.  He will continue to work part-time with the club’s performance athletes over the next couple of months.

Ben Muench will continue working with the junior group while taking on some additional practices with the performance group and heading up the summer programs.  Ben is planning to return to university in the fall to begin his teaching degree.

The club is also excited to announce that Peter Majewski has been hired as the new head coach starting in March.  Peter has worked as a canoe kayak coach for over 25 years and has worked with athletes at local, provincial, and national levels.  Most recently he has been head coach at Ridge Canoe & Kayak Club where a number of his athletes have achieved places on the junior and senior national teams.

Peter has a great deal of experience in canoe kayak and also working with youth in a variety of sport and educational settings. Peter will develop competitive paddlers and also support younger athletes, adults, and those wishing to pursue a more recreational approach to the sport.

Fort Canoe & Kayak Club

Fort Canoe & Kayak Club is happy to announce they have hired a new full time head coach. Connor Fehr from Chelsea Quebec’s Cascades Club will join the club in May. Connor’s  coaching style and qualifications combined with his soon to be completed business degree will benefit the club from a development and growth perspective.

And helping the club as an interim part-time coach is former CKBC staff member Cory Rublee. Cory started in January to coach and prepare summer programming. In July and August, he will be full time as Summer Program Coordinator/Coach before heading back to school in September. Cory will also help new head-coach Connor get the lay of the land and familiarize him with west coast clubs.
