CanoeKids photo contest – win a Lightening Kayak for your club!

CKBC is looking for a new photo to feature on the provincial CanoeKids poster and other promotional material. And the club whose photo is chosen as the winner will receive a Lightening Kayak at the 2018 Pacific Cup in Maple Ridge.

Theme: Fun, Fitness and Friendship ~ a safe and enjoyable learning environment where kids can make lifelong friendships. 

Photos will be judged on following criteria:

  • showing off beautiful B.C.’s view from your club
  • showcasing your CanoeKids participant numbers
  • demonstrating that you are using developmentally appropriate equipment
  • showing your kids having FUN
  • showing your kids have learned stage appropriate skills
  • demonstrating an emphasis on safety such as motorboats, PFDs, etc.

Other considerations:

  • Please do not add a watermark to the submitted photos.
  • Photos must be of your club’s programming and and must be your own and high-resolution.
  • Include a brief description of the photo.
  • Photos become the property of CKBC.

CKBC member clubs may submit up to three photos for judging. Submit your club’s photo(s) to info@canoekayakbc.ca by Tuesday, September 4 at midnight. The winning club will receive a Lightening Kayak at Pacific Cup!

Forty-seven sprint paddlers set to represent B.C. at nationals

Forty-seven paddlers from nine clubs are set to represent B.C. at the upcoming 2018 Canadian Sprint Canoe Kayak Championships. Taking place in Sherbrooke at the Lac de Nations at Jacques-Cartier Park, the event will crown champions in a variety of age categories in sprint canoe, kayak and paracanoe from August 28-September 1.

25 medals for B.C. paddlers at 2018 Whitewater National Championships

Eleven paddlers represented B.C. at the 2018 Whitewater National Championships in Kananaskis, Alberta from August 2-6. Led by Chilliwack Centre of Excellence teammates Finn Wakeling, Jacob Kryworuchko and Isabel Taylor, the group captured 25 medals.

Wakeling brought home seven medals, five of them gold, in the canoe downriver and slalom competitions. Competing in the cadet age group for the singles events, he medaled with Taylor in the mixed junior competitions. He also qualified for the A-Final in the C-1 Open Slalom event.

Also winning seven medals was Taylor. Competing in the kayak and canoe events, she won two gold in both the downriver and slalom events.

Meanwhile, Kryworuchko, captured six medals, two of them gold in the canoe and kayak junior downriver and slalom events. He also paired with whitewater newcomer Sam Loutet (Burnaby Kayak & Canoe Club) for medals in the mixed canoe competitions. Like Wakeling, he also qualified for the A-Final in the C-1 Open Slalom event.
